Railroad Garden
The 600' long Arrow River Train Ride is part
of the Railroad Garden at the Camden Children's Garden. The Train Ride holds
up to 38 children or 22 adults. There is a modest cost to ride the train.
Interwoven with the Train Ride is the expanded
"G" scale display of model trains. The G- Scale display features
commuter, freight, mountain and mixed freight trains running at different
elevations throughout the Railroad Garden. Miniature landscapes compliment
the Railroad Garden, which includes a 10-foot high waterfall and buildings
made from natural products such as acorns, bark chips and bean pods. Two
of our buildings feature replicas of local Camden history. One building
represents the Sharp house on Cooper Street, and another building is the
famous, "Nipper" building complete with "His Master's Voice"
windows. Visitors also ride near a village of custom houses and "Wally
World" a collection of storefronts. The exhibit is also filled with
perennials, ornamentals and trees. The
cornerstone of this exhibit is the full-sized, 25-ton "Camden Caboose."
Originally used in 1942 for the New Haven Rail Line, this caboose was donated
by Conrail. Once the Caboose is fully restored, it will become a place for
hosting birthday parties and educational classes. So
if you enjoy trains, please stop by and see us. We are located at 3 Riverside
Drive, Camden, New Jersey. Call 1.856.365.8733 for additional information.
Proceeds from the train help maintain the Garden
and the Club’s Programs. The train is also available for an additional
charge with an evening rental.
