Community Gardening And Greening
Established in 1984 our Community Gardening
Program helps residents of the City of Camden and members of the Garden
Club maintain community garden and greening sites throughout the City of
Camden.
Over 1,000 people participate in this program. The
Camden City Garden Club (CCGC) assists members who wish to clean vacant,
City owned, trash-strewn lots and transform them into beautiful and productive
community gardens. Neighbors come together to not only beautify a former
eyesore and reclaim a part of their block, but to also grow fresh and nutritious
fruits and vegetables.
The CCGC provides tools, plants and seeds to its
members. In addition, about 100,000 plants are given away annually to members.
The members provide the sweat equity involved in planning, planting, maintenance
and harvest of the garden. Members receive planting and gardening information
and can participate in demonstrations, and periodic workshops.
The Garden Club will also assist members and Camden
residents with Community Greening projects and tree plantings throughout
the neighborhoods of Camden. In 2005 our focus will be in the Parkside neighborhood.
The Club will assist residents in the beautification of their front yards,
and with planting street trees. The Club will provide technical assistance,
workshops and information sheets.
